Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Pools and Spas

Cost of Pool

The most significant costs in pool construction often arise during the excavation and shotcrete phases. In Tucson, the challenge of rocky soil can increase these costs, as voids may need to be filled, raising the amount of shotcrete required. The cost of shotcrete is influenced by the current commodity prices and the skilled labor needed for its application. At Omni Pools, we manage these phases efficiently, using high-quality materials to ensure both durability and stylish design.

While fiberglass pools are quicker to install, they may not always be the most cost-effective option in the Tucson area. The local availability of skilled labor for shotcrete pools makes them a more prevalent and often less expensive choice despite the quicker installation time of fiberglass. Omni Pools provides a variety of fiberglass designs, each tailored to meet different preferences and budget considerations, while offering the advantage of lower maintenance needs.

Adding a pool to your Tucson home can increase its value by approximately $25,000 to $35,000 or 5% to 8%, according to local market analyses. This valuation boost depends on the pool's quality, design, and the overall appeal of the outdoor space, excluding the remainder of the backyard. Our expertly crafted pools are designed to maximize your home’s market appeal and ensure a valuable investment.

Freeform or organic-shaped pools are typically more affordable due to requiring fewer materials as their non-linear shapes minimize the need for squared-off walls. In contrast, geometric pools usually hold more water due to their structured shapes, necessitating more materials for construction.

Building a custom pool in Tucson typically ranges from $50,000 to $150,000. At Omni Pools, we pride ourselves on offering transparent pricing and customizable options to meet both your style and budget. Our detailed consultations ensure that you understand every aspect of the cost and can make informed decisions tailored to your preferences.

Electrical VALUE

Using conduits for low-voltage wiring enhances safety by protecting against mechanical damage and environmental impacts. It also facilitates future upgrades and maintenance, making it a cost-effective solution for long-term pool ownership.

Rodents can cause severe damage to electrical wiring, leading to potential safety hazards like shorts and fires, and expensive repairs. Our packrat proof solutions safeguard your investment and ensure uninterrupted pool enjoyment.

Pool permits and barrier code in SaddleBrooke

SaddleBrooke is in Pinal County, not Pima County, and that one distinction changes the barrier requirement on every lot. Pinal County requires 60 inches. Unincorporated Pima County, a few miles south, requires 48. The mix up is common enough that at least one HOA in the area publishes the wrong county on its own website.

Permitting authorityPinal County Community Development, Building Safety Division
Required barrier height60 inches
Code adopted2018 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code
CitationPCDSC 6.05.030(A)(7), Ordinance 121819-BCO, measurement per Information Bulletin 010
EffectiveAdopted by Ordinance 121819-BCO

What is different in SaddleBrooke

  • SaddleBrooke is entirely in Pinal County with zero overlap into Pima County, and it is not part of Oro Valley. Permits go to Pinal County Building Safety.
  • We verified this geometrically rather than taking anyone’s word for it. The SaddleBrooke CDP polygon, Census GEOID 0461940 and about 47.7 square miles, was intersected with the Pima County polygon and the overlap area is exactly zero. The CDP southern edge sits on the Pinal and Pima county line, and Oro Valley’s northernmost town limit is about two miles further south.
  • Eagle Crest Ranch, 966 homes north of Edwin Road inside the SaddleBrooke CDP, is entirely Pinal County as well. The Eagle Crest Ranch HOA website states Pima County. That is incorrect, and building to the Pima County figure would put a barrier 12 inches short.
  • SaddleBrooke Ranch geocodes to Pinal County as well.
  • No incorporated place intersects the CDP, so there is no municipal government there and no municipal code layer on top of the county standard.

Height is measured on the side of the barrier facing away from the pool, not the pool side, and it has to hold around the entire perimeter and for three feet measured horizontally out from the outside face. A barrier that meets the height at the gate and loses it where grade falls away does not comply. The gate latch release has to sit at least 54 inches above grade, and no opening anywhere in the barrier may pass a four inch sphere.
